Jim Brooks
Music Minister
Jim was born in
Louisville, Kentucky, where he lived until graduating from
college in 1963. He was raised in a Christian home and made
his profession of faith at age 11. His first opportunity to lead
music was at his home church,
Little Flock Baptist, where he served for two years while
still in high school. While attending the
University of Louisville, Jim married his wife, Vanita, and
they have been active in Southern Baptist churches wherever they
were living. Jim's call to ministry came when he was serving in the
U.S. Air Force and upon retirement, he enrolled at
Southwestern Baptist Theological
Seminary
preparing for a music ministry. Jim and Vanita felt called to
missions, especially to work with English speakers stationed outside
the U.S. They continued their ministry in
Texas until in 1993 they were given the opportunity to go to
Japan to serve with the
International Mission
Board.
They were blessed by being able to minister there for 14 years until
retirement. They returned to
Louisville in 2006. Although this portion of Jim’s ministry
has been completed, he is grateful for the opportunity to continue
serving in the music ministry of The First Baptist Church of Fisherville. He
feels a minister never retires, just accepts new challenges and
continues to serve. Jim and his wife Vanita have been married for 47
years. They have 3 children and 4 grandchildren spread across the
U.S., and enjoy every opportunity to spend time with them.

Owen, J.I.
